Home Again

June 14, 2010
Back in Boston sunburnt, exhausted, but overall very happy. I can't begin to describe the experience that I have had this week. I am so sad to leave the island and the EI. I loved working with the children everyday, I felt so comfortable in that setting. I feel like I have really gotten a grasp on how I work and what my style is.

Not only was the setting wonderful but the people that I got to share this week with were some of the best around. I have never felt so comfortable around a group of people, and I am happy to call all of them my friends. All of them brought something unique and amazing to the group, they are all talented and I know that will make fantastic music therapists in the future. I am so grateful for them, they mean the world to me,

So although I am sad that I had to leave, I am happy that I had this week, it has taught me a lot and given me the time to grow closer with my friends. So thank you to all of those that helped to plan this trip and make it happen, you have really given me something that I will never forget.

Last Day

June 11, 2010
Today was our last day doing EI sessions, and needless to say I am a little sad. I wish I could just stay on this island and work with these children! It was such a great experience and I feel like I learned a lot from this trip and from the groups that I worked with. I think I learned a lot about my therapy style here as well, it felt so good to go into a session without worrying about being graded. I could really be myself with the kids and enjoy it with them. Tomorrow we are doing an in-se...

EI

June 10, 2010
Today we worked with two groups one had little ones that were 18 months - 2 years, and the other were about 2-4 years. The first group was very excited about music and got very into everything that we did, it was so much fun seeing them enjoy themselves dancing and playing. The second group was a little hyper active but they still seemed to really enjoy themselves still. Tomorrow is the last day we get to work with the kids, and I am a little sad!! After our sessions we went to Sunset Hotel a...

Second Day

June 9, 2010
Today at the EI we had two sessions, The first was at the EI program at the Lighthouse School, it was all boys and a little difficult. It was the first time they had every experienced music and it was all a little overwhelming for them. One boy yelled "no,no,no" and another boy cried the entire time, so needless to say it was a little difficult. The second group was at a preschool, the group was fantastic. Just one of the best sessions I've ever experienced in my time doing this. We got a lit...

First Session

June 8, 2010
Elaina and I (Erin hadn't arrived yet) went to the early intervention program at the Light House School early this morning. We got to spend the whole morning with the kids and it couldn't have been more fun. We ate plastic hamburgers during play time, colored sail boats in OT, helped during snack time, and then played music with them! They loved the music, and were incredibly enthusiastic throughout the entire time. After everyone had returned from their session we got the treat of some beach...
